The idea mentor would be of course a real life alien itself or an ex FBI or area 51 worker who knows tops secrets information about aliens and other life forms out there. Maybe also had contact with aliens and talk with them about other galaxies and planets and other advance technology. Has to have a lot of knowledge on outer space and life forms and also some experience.
