Vocab

Theme- the subject of a talk, a piece of writing, a person's thoughts, or an exhibition; a topic.
Ex:He antagonism between free labour and slave labour became the theme of many of his speeches.

Tone- the general character or attitude of a place, piece of writing, situation, etc.
Ex:The tone of his voice show us what he was feeling.

Mood- a temporary state of mind or feeling.
Ex:Her mood kept swinging.

Diction- the choice and use of words and phrases in speech or writing.
Ex:His choice of dictions were clever.

Syntax- the arrangement of words and phrases to create well-formed sentences in a language.
Ex:His Syntax was well arrange.

Syllogism- an instance of a form of reasoning in which a conclusion is drawn (whether validly or not) from two given or assumed propositions (premises), each of which shares a term with the conclusion, and shares a common or middle term not present in the conclusion
Ex:Syllogism work together well.

Stupid- lacking intelligence or common sense.
Ex:He was called stupid for not knowing the answer.

Adumbrate- report or represent in outline.
Ex:He Adumbrate his essay first.

Apotheosis- the highest point in the development of something; culmination or climax.
Ex:The Apotheosis in the story was when the main character fought the boss.

Ascetic- characterized by or suggesting the practice of severe self-discipline and abstention from all forms of indulgence, typically for religious reasons.
Ex:On the basis of such a cosmical philosophy, ethics can only have a dualistic ascetic character.

Bauble- a small, showy trinket or decoration.
Ex:He put up bauble is his room.

Beguile- charm or enchant (someone), sometimes in a deceptive way.
Ex:Women have the power to beguile men.

Burgeon- begin to grow or increase rapidly; flourish.
Ex:His wealth begin to burgeon after investments.

Complement- a thing that completes or brings to perfection.
Ex:The last puzzle piece was a complement to the whole picture.

Contumacious- (especially of a defendant's behavior) stubbornly or willfully disobedient to authority.
Ex:The teens were very contumacious to the police officers.

Curmudgeon- a bad-tempered or surly person.
Ex:The King had a curmudgeon each time he got less money.

Didactic- intended to teach, particularly in having moral instruction as an ulterior motive.
Ex:In folk tales there are always didactic.

Disingenuous- not candid or sincere, typically by pretending that one knows less about something than one really does.
Ex: The kid act disingenuous around his friends.

Exculpate- show or declare that (someone) is not guilty of wrongdoing.
Ex:Lawyers are a example of exculpate.

Faux pas- an embarrassing or tactless act or remark in a social situation.
Ex:The teacher fart in front of the class and was faux pas.
Fulminate- express vehement protest.
Ex:All fulminated against the new curriculum.

Fustian- pompous or pretentious speech or writing.
Ex:a smoke screen of fustian and fantasy.

Hauteur- haughtiness of manner; disdainful pride.
Ex:The king was very hauteur because he had his own kingdom.

Inhibit- hinder, restrain, or prevent (an action or process).
Ex:Cold inhibits plant growth.

Jeremiad- a long, mournful complaint or lamentation; a list of woes.
Ex:The king had many jeremiad.

Opportunist- a person who exploits circumstances to gain immediate advantage rather than being guided by consistent principles or plans.
Ex:most burglaries are committed by casual opportunists

Unconscionable- not right or reasonable.
Ex:the unconscionable conduct of his son.
