Questions Part 1

1.The novel Fahrenheit 451 begins : “It was a pleasure to burn.” Why does Ray Bradbury start the novel in this way? Why might it be more pleasurable to burn books rather than read them?

  • So the audience can start asking questions and see what happen next to get them hook on.

To switch it up a plot twist and so the audience can relate that they don't like to read books.

2. In the opening scene, why are the books compared to birds?

  • When the books are burning the ashes are going up in the air like birds flying

3. Discuss the difference between Montag and Clarisse’s lives.

  • The live of Montag is boring because he has a basic life he does the same thing everyday and doesn't question things isn't curious, while Clarisse is curious about a lot of things and thinks about other things to do doesn't want to follow the basic life style that everyone lives.

4. Montag’s television includes headphones called “seashells.”  The “wall to wall circuit” allows Mildred to enter the “play” and, therefore, the television programming. How does the technology within the novel compare to our current technology? In the first pages of the novel, does technology improve the quality of life for Montag and his wife, Mildred? Why or why not?

  • That technology is pretty advanced and our technology is getting pretty close to it and that he predict stuff cool stuff that no one could have imagine. It does not because it seems like Mildred is in her own world and not really paying attention to anything that is going around her. It like it taking over her life and controlling her.

5. Why does the narrator introduce us to Montag at this time of his life, when he encounters Clarisse and confronts Mildred’s overdose?

  • To see how everyone is like in that world and to show us that Montag has changed and that he is not happy with his life and to show what was wrong with the world

6. Why does the author introduce the character of Clarisse before Mildred?

  • To show us what kind of character Clarisse is and how she is different compare to Mildred who is like every other person in that world

7. Why are all the houses fireproof in this society?

  • Becuase they burn everything inside they want to burn all the books and leave nothing behind but not burn down the house so that why the houses are fireproof.

8. Why does Mildred require emergency service? What service is provided?

  • Becuase she overdoes on her pills and she died and the service changed everything of her all her organs and blood so she can live again.

9. What is the mechanical hound and what is its purpose?

  • The purpose of the hound is to kill people and to keep the firehouse safe

10. Why does the society consider Clarisse “anti-social”?

  • Because she doesn't live a normal life she is always asking questions about things that she shouldn't and talks about taboo things in that world

11. When the woman’s house is raided, why does she light the match?

  • Because she would rather die than her books taking away from her and the "help" that they will give her.

12. Describe the relationship between Montag and Mildred.

  • Not  a really happy relationship that they have seems that Mildred doesn't love Montag

13. What is the purpose of Beatty's visit?

  • To talk about what happen with the lady that to see if Montag was okay, because Beatty said it always happens to a fireman sooner or later
14. Reread Captain Beatty’s monologue (pp.57-59). Discuss his view that school cultivates anti-intellectual sentiment (p.58). In your opinion does it accurately depict your high school? Do books violate the idea that ”everyone is made equal” (p.58)?
  • No it doesn't it completely off from my opinion, because everyone is not made equal in school purpose, because some learn different ways and some are fast or slow learners and some might be strong in some subjects and weak in other vice versa.
15. Why does Montag feel “fat”?
  • Because he feels unhappy and that he is saving things up inside him and doesn't know what it is.

college fair

The college fair was a good learning experience and I learned some new stuff. The cost of attending out of state colleges are really expensive but they really have great programs. They are ranked pretty high and also that some allow you to go in as undeclared. Some are big colleges but have small class room size and great resources, but i thought we weren't given enough time to fully go to each one and talk about the colleges because of how crowd it was or some colleges left. However it was still a good experience

WHAT I SEE IN LITERATURE

"Whenever you feel like criticizing any one," he told me, "just remember that all the people in this world haven't had the advantages that you've had.”
This is to tell Nick that don't judge people by their appearance , because you don't know how they grew up and weren't fortunate as others. Nick doesn't judge people that much except for Gatsby on his life style and the way he behave, but like him he was an alright person for Nick and Gatsby was a person that Nick really wasn't annoy with and so after Nick getting to know Gatsby he liked him.

FAHRENHEIT 451

At first I didn't think I would like this book but the more I read I enjoy the book the author is very descriptive of the details. You could picture what he is talking about and make a scene very thrilling without having to make it a big climax it could be small and it will still be very thrilling. Also on what he has about the technology is pretty cool and amazing on how he could have imagine all of that before they were invent or before they are invent. Also how the book that world and reality are opposite that how it seems to me and they are still some similarities. The girl catches my attention on how she is curious about a lot of things. but it a bad thing and how she made the fireman have emotion and start asking the same questions he was asked by the girl. When he thought she was weird asking those type of questions. She made him think about his life and what was going on the world.

CAN WE WATCH THE MOVIE

I think we should, because we can compare the book and the movie to see how the director want to describe his way or the author vision. To compare our imagination and the actual visual and see how they are similar and different. To see what we didn't hear in the book and the characters expression.
